The Art Of Listening

We have a very unique opportunity to cultivate a personal and intimate relationship with God. Within this relationship, we have the very unique opportunity of having His Spirit live within us. We have the unique opportunity of having intimate conversations with His Spirit. However, when we fail to continue to cultivate and nurture this relationship, our spiritual ability to hear becomes limited and dull (Mt. 13:11-15). At this point, we begin to allow the voice of others to come into our hearing and we begin to listen to them and their counsel instead of listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Many would believe that this is where our problems begin. If the truth be told, our problems began the moment we began to neglect our relationship with God.

We all have been at this place within our lives. This is when the Spirit of God lovingly begins to say to each one of us,

“…I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works…He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith…” (Rev. 2:4,5,7).

God treasures the special moments with us just as much we do with Him. The Bible provides us with a glimpse of how God views His special relationship with His people:

“He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; He led him about, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: So the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with Him” (Deut. 32:10-12).

Let us remember, lest we forget how our lives were before we were “found” by God. We need this interaction with God throughout every waking of every single day. Let us return to the practice of listening for His voice in order to

“…hear a word behind thee (us) saying, “This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye (we) turn to the right hand, and when ye (we) turn to the left…” (Is. 30:21).

Come, let us return…for our Father is waiting to hear from us…#‎thinkonthesethings

  1. In times of struggle we blame God for it instead of seeing in Him the power to come over it.
