Misconceptions about the what the church should be like and the work it should be doing find their origin within none other than the church itself. How so? We must begin by understanding the origins and mission of the church:
In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; And darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light: and there was light.” (Gen. 1:1-3).
Within the creation of the world, we witness how the world was intended to function under God’s government. However, the sin element was introduced into the creation through the act of the first members of the human race (Gen. 3). This placed the order of God’s government within the world into chaos and turmoil.
However, with the events of creation being marred by sin, God. later, sent a flood that destroyed all life in a symbolic cleansing of the world. By doing so, God was reinstating His right to rule through His form of government and the obedience of Noah. God preserved Noah’s family from the flood and began the process of repopulating the world subsequent to the abating of the flood waters from the earth (Gen. 6:8 – 9:1). As Biblical history records, soon after, the world returned to rebellion against the government of God. This continued from the days of the building of the Tower of Babel until Abram’s being called out of polytheistic living to following after the One True God (Gen. 11-12)…#thinkonthesethings
