Misconceptions Of The Church From Within, Pt. 2

God began to reestablish His right to rule through the establishment of a covenant with Abram, who became Abraham upon accepting his role within the covenant agreement (Gen. 12-25:11). As a result of Abraham’s obedience and faithfulness to his covenant with God, God promised that in him “…shall all families of the earth be blessed…” (Gen. 12:3). The covenant between God and Abraham did not end with Abraham’s death. This was only the beginning of God’s purpose for calling Abraham out from the heathen religions.

We are able to find the explanation of this in Hebrews 9:16,17. We often attribute the context of these verses to the covenant of the law and that of grace; however, there is an underlying truth available to us through a proper understanding of keywords from the text:

“For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth…”

The word, testament, in the Greek language, comes from the word, Diatheke, and means testament or covenant. Within the text, it signifies the appointment of a solemn disposition or institution from God to man. In relation to Abraham, it is the declaration of God’s unconditional disposition to Abraham in regard to his future posterity (the Nation of Israel), in conjunction with the establishment of the new covenant through His own Son, Jesus the Christ. In order for the covenantal promises to be in full effect, the inheritance would be passed from generation to generation upon the death of the testator, who in this instance was Abraham…#‎thinkonthesethings‬
