Misconceptions Of The Church From Within, Pt. 6

However, with this new status comes new responsibility. This leads us into understanding the mission of the church. We understand that Jesus gave us the instruction in Matt. 28:19,20:

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world…”

What did Jesus teach and command us to do? First lesson…”Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Mt. 4:17). If we take notice, the first lesson Jesus teaches us is about the Kingdom of God (synonymous with the Kingdom of Heaven). In this verse, we learn that this repentance resubmits us to God’s sovereign right to rule as it: 1) resurrects our relationship with Him, and 2) restores us to having dominion over all of creation under Him. It centers our focus upon establishing God’s governmental practices here within the earth.

Then, Jesus proceeds to preach the gospel of the Kingdom (Mt. 4:23-25) before beginning to teach about the Kingdom of God and the law’s relation to the Kingdom in an extensive discourse known to us as the Sermon on the Mount (Mt. 5-7). Throughout this extensive discourse (and of those portions of Scripture beyond these few passages), we can observe that many of Christ’s allusions and inferences are made with the Kingdom of God in mind. Christ’s mission was not only to usher in the Kingdom of God beginning with His three year ministry and the redemption of all of creation through His death, but it was to set the atmosphere for the institutionalization of God’s Kingdom here on earth subsequent to His physical departure…#‎thinkonthesethings‬
