Misconceptions Of The Church From Within, Pt. 7

Then, Jesus proceeds to preach the gospel of the Kingdom (Mt. 4:23-25) before beginning to teach about the Kingdom of God and the law’s relation to the Kingdom in an extensive discourse known to us as the Sermon on the Mount (Mt. 5-7). Throughout this extensive discourse (and of those portions of Scripture beyond these few passages), we can observe that many of Christ’s allusions and inferences are made with the Kingdom of God in mind. Christ’s mission was not only to usher in the Kingdom of God beginning with His three year ministry and the redemption of all of creation through His death, but it was to set the atmosphere for the institutionalization of God’s Kingdom here on earth subsequent to His physical departure.

As the church arose to the forefront to continue Christ’s ministry, we must acknowledge that Jesus presented His disciples with a preview of the things to come in fulfilling their mission:

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8)

The power to fulfill the mission given to the church before Christ’s physical departure came in abundance in the form of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This power made the members of this new institution capable of engaging heavily in communal living in similar manner to the Nation of Israel while living in and departing from Egypt. The rules by which they lived brought about liberty and a change of perspective concerning the way they approached life within the surrounding culture. Christ’s mission for the church was for it to become the outward manifestation of what it means to be a member and resident of the Kingdom of God here on earth…#‎thinkonthesethings‬
