Everyday, we engage in behavior that not only have physical and natural ramifications, but spiritual and eternal ones as well. If we have to ask a question about whether an act is permissible, then, chances are, it may either be something that needs further clarification or it may be something from which we should walk away. The Apostle Paul teaches us,
“All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient…” (1 Cor. 6:12).
Too often, we focus solely upon the momentary enjoyment we receive without considering how much these acts can be detrimental to ourselves and others. Paul later mentions that we should “…pray without ceasing…” (1 Thess. 5:17). It is in these moments that we should be praying for God’s wisdom and direction in order to discern between what is permissible and what is beneficial to us.
