Many of us despise the wilderness experiences that we both have faced and will face throughout our lives. More often than not, we do not consider that many of our wilderness experiences are a direct answer to our prayers to draw closer to God. We must understand one significant factor concerning the wilderness experience: it is not designed to bring about our demise.
The wilderness experiences of life are designed to bring us closer to God. How so? Why? As we encounter the wilderness, we realize that some of the experiences may last longer than others. It is because God is working out His righteousness within us as He works our sinful nature out of us. Some of the old sinful behaviors and habits have gained such a stronghold within our lives and may take an extended period of time for us to willingly “lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us…” (Heb. 12:1).
Therefore, when we approach our Heavenly Father in prayer about drawing closer to Him, we must be careful of the choice of words in which we may use. We cannot speak random words which sound ‘spiritually and theologically deep‘, but not clearly communicate our true desires. We must, however, depend upon the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us in each conversation and encounter with our Heavenly Father (Rom. 8:26,27).
Trust the Holy Spirit to align your heart with the will of the Father…and you will begin to understand how to embrace the beauty of each wilderness experience as an opportunity to become more like Him…#thinkonthesethings
