The Abundant Life

The abundant life promised by Jesus is available to all who choose to live in complete obedience to His Word.

“See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil…” (Deut. 30:15).

As believers, we place great emphasis upon the blessing and gift of the abundant life that Jesus promised to us. However, we do not mention the two key points about that abundant life which must take place in order for that life to be lived successfully: 1) this abundant life does not just happen automatically because it must be taken, and 2) the life has to be lived out daily. What does this mean?

If we have noticed, during this life’s journey, we have not just been handed things fairly easy without having to engage in some form of conflict. Why? The enemy is not going to willingly hand over possession to anything to us when he knows our intentions are to use it for the advancing of the Kingdom of God. Hence, the meaning behind Jesus’ words in Matthew’s account, “...the Kingdom of Heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force…” (11:12). We are going to have to engage in some form of warfare in order to possess the Promised Land God and abundant life Jesus has promised to us.

In addition to this, when we arrive this place of abundance, we have to live out a life of obedience to God’s Word daily. We are representatives to the world of how God intends for his people to live: in peace and harmony with each other and with His creation. God manifests His goodness to the unbelieving world through us and through the daily provision which He ensures that we have access to wherein all of our needs are met by His providential hand. It is our responsibility to be good stewards of the gifts of God’s goodness. This is the abundant life of which Jesus spoke.

As we continue to prepare for the Promised Land, we must remember that every conquest serves a greater purpose, for it leads to the abundant life that was promised to us by our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ of God. We cannot turn away from the path that must be walked out in order to receive the blessing for it is the only way to receive the blessing. Cleave unto the Lord…follow Him wholeheartedly…the promised benefit of an obedient life is the attaining of the abundant life in the Kingdom of God.
