The Setup (pssst…We Win!!!)

The battle is fixed. The war is fixed. This is the greatest setup of all time. In the end, we win because Jesus has already won.

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest…” (Josh. 1:9).

Once God has given the command to take possession of the promise, we need not fear anything the enemy brings our way. In addition to the promise that we will possess the land (vv. 3-6), but we also have additional promises that: 1) God Himself will be going to be with us, 2) He will be going before us to fight for us, 3) He will not fail us, and 4) neither will He forsake us (vv. 5, 9).

At first glance, the roar and threat of the enemy appears to be ferocious and deadly. But we need not fear because there are more fighting on our behalf than there are fighting against us (2 Chron. 32:7). All we need to do is fix our eyes upon Jesus the Christ, the Author and Finisher of our faith, and watch how God will disrupt the plans of the enemy for us (2 Chron. 20; 32:20-22; Heb. 12:2).

The focus of fear is to distract us from understanding that the victory has already been given to us through Jesus the Christ. The focus of faith redirects our attention to the fact that He has secured this for us once and for all at Calvary’s cross. The Holy Spirit of God now dwells within us to comfort, assure, teach, guide, transform and empower us daily so we may remain focused upon this fact when the enemy of our souls attempts to fill our hearts with fear and doubt.

Remember, “all of God’s promises in Christ are yes, and in Him amen, unto the glory of God…” (2 Cor. 1:20). His Word is going to come to pass, whether it is in our generation, or in the one to come, by faith (Is. 55:11). There is not anything the devil nor the gates of hell can do to stop it from coming to pass (Mt. 16:18).
