Opinion Matters: 5-4-18

Do our opinions really matter?

Why do we point our finger at others to blame them for their wrongdoings? Are we altogether innocent? Why are we not willing to extend grace to others when they do wrong? Have we forgotten that someone extended this same grace to us when we were wrong? I think it is a bit hypocritical.

It is as though we hold others to a higher standard than we hold ourselves. When it comes to us, we tend to play the victim card. We cry out, “It’s not fair!”, and we look for sympathy from others. However, we hold no punches when it comes to someone else. Where is the justice in this? I think it is a bit hypocritical.

Who are we to look down on others? If we would take a closer look at ourselves, then we would realize that we need to make adjustments as well.

We have a tendency to ostracize and categorize before we recognize that, oftentimes, the other people are just like us. We are no better than are they. Were we not all with sin? So how can we, in good conscience, cast the first stone? I think it is a bit hypocritical.

Hypocrisy is everywhere. Church. Politics. Homes. Schools. Communities. Everywhere we turn, we see hypocrisy at work and its victims left in the shadows to figure out how to recover from the attacks. The rest of us walk on by without acknowledging that we are seeing what we actually did see. We excuse ourselves by saying, “It’s not my problem.” Yet, in reality it is our problem because we are members of the world community. It affects us all. I think it is a bit hypocritical.

So what do we do about it? We address the problem. We call the hypocrisy out by name. Stand up against it. Protect those who are victimized by it. Hold those who are perpetuating the actions accountable. It has to begin somewhere.

What are your thoughts? I would appreciate any feedback from anyone. This is a community effort to living our best life in honor of the One Who has given us this life to live. Love God…love others…love yourself!
