I Want To Be Free
By Sean Mungin

Have you ever felt as though you were being buried alive as life continued to compound each previous issue with a new problem that had its own set of grief and concerns? Problems became so unbearable that you wished you could run away from them and everything else if but for one moment of peace? Yet there was no sign of relief in sight…what do you do?

The weight of these problems can take you on a trip for which you were not prepared emotionally. When all is said and done, you are left alone in your own state of brokenness, without any hope of ever seeing the light of day again. Friends have left your side because your burdens have become too much for them to bear. The pangs from the hurt have left you completely devastated…what do you do?

When all options presented to you have failed, you find yourself sinking deeper into a place of depression…much deeper than you have ever experienced before. How do you break free? How do you obtain the peace for which you so long? Answers continue to escape you as the questions continue to mount up against you. The faintest cry of your heart repeatedly goes rampant within your inner man, “I just want to be free…”

If you are able to relate, then you may find it unbelievable that someone else has experienced the same situation as you with differing circumstances. Oftentimes, the reason you were unaware is because the issues of life experienced by your sister(s) have not been disclosed to others for fear of being ostracized or misunderstood by others who have not shared her (their) experience(s). They, like you, have erected a wall of defense to shield themselves from external discomforts. They, like you, place a smile upon their faces while in public, but upon their return home, they find themselves falling apart once again.

Then, there are those who have developed an internal mechanism to help them to cope with the situation. When the intimidating winds of life begin to surface, they immediately run to turn on the switch in order to cope…again. On the inside, they know that this is no way to live, but to them, feeling numb is far better than feeling the effects that stem from the hurt. However, at the end of the day, when the switch is placed into the off position again, the problem still remains and they feel what you are feeling…again.

The solution to every problem and situation you have experienced or are still experiencing is found in Jesus Christ. Realistically speaking, some things may be resolved immediately. Others…will require you to seek further assistance in an effort to delve deeper beneath the surface to arrive at full and complete healing and restoration. This is the place where God wants you to live…complete wholeness…spirit, soul, and body. There is no simple solution or quick fix to your problems. This is the beginning of a journey.

So “let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing…” (Jam. 1:4).
